Tineo to Pola de Allende

September 7, 2023

Today was going to be a long day as it was scheduled for 28.8 km and a lot of climb.   Fortunately breakfast was being served at 7:00 am so we were all down for an early breakfast and were on the road by 7:45.  It was still dark as we started out on the first climb of the day.  It was good to get that first climb out of the way before the heat started to hit.

In no time we were out of the little town of Tineo and were following the ridge line along the valley.  It was quite pretty as the morning sun came over the hills.   As we have been following this valley for couple days we are getting spoiled as to its beauty.

At about the 12 kms mark we came to a little town where we had our lunch.  A very nice roast beef sandwich and a coke for 2.5 euros.  Not a bad deal.  Off down the road with everyone in good spirits.

Some time after lunch and the 20 kms mark we lost Bob and Maureen.  The remaining four of us sat down on the side of the road and waited and waited but the never showed up.  After about 45 minutes we are really concerned and started trying to call them.   Turns out they had taken a different route than we had and were actually in front of us by a couple of kilometers.  While we had followed the route as laid out on the Camino Ways web site they said that they followed the Camino markers all the way as well.  I guess there are probably lots of different routes to take.

Tonight's hotel is pretty dumpy and we have two nights here as there is no hotel in the next town so we have to be ferried back here tomorrow night , and to add insult to injury we were handed ear plugs when we checked in as the hotel is hosting a party for the next two nights.  Part of the adventure.  I guess.

All said and done it was a pretty good day and even though it was quite hot in the later part of the afternoon, we didn't get rained on as per the forecast.

You have shown roads in some of your pics; are you just crossing, or walking along some roadways?

A pilgrimage party. Do they party like the Irish did in Dingle, Ireland, in 2016?
