March 3 2023 A day in Vigo

Today was a get ready and see the town of Vigo.  I meet Ken in the lobby at 8:30 and we sat and had a bit of breakfast.  Judy joined us and we set off to see the city of Vigo and get our Camino passports.  We headed down to the tourist office which the tour information said was where to pick up the Camino Passport there we told that we had to do to the Vigo Cathedral which was right beside our hotel so we walked back there unfortunately it was now closed for lunch and siesta and would open at 5:30 pm.  We now had the resto the day to walk around and see the town.  It is really a beautiful city perched on some rather steep hills which surround the harbor. We walked down and found the start of the Camino trail down by the waterfront and the statue of Jules Vern as his book 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea starts in Vigo.  We then climbed the larges hill in Vigo where the harbor fortress had been built.  Although the fort probable dates back to the 11th century it is built on original settlements dating back to 900 BC.

It was a nice sunny day so Ken Judy and I sat in the sun and drank a beer at a cafe near the fort.  It was a very relaxing time.  However as soon as the sun started to dip it cooled off quickly and we headed back to our hotel.

We headed over to the cathedral and got there just as it was opening and picked up our Camino passports.  The priest who gave us our passports even put the first stamp into it.  Judy and I both agreed that now it feels real, and we are on our way.  I have to say that once it is filled with stamps from our journey it will be a fabulous keep sake.

Luggage in the lobby before 8:00 am tomorrow and a 15 kms walk to Rondondela.

Have a great walk, Terry, Ken & Judy! For a moment Terry I thought you had borrowed octopus legs, but it was Jules. Enjoy the slower pace than the usual cycling. Make sure you get your passport stamped at every stage, else the indulgences aren’t valid. Cheers

I'm pretty sure that Terry will have to walk more than 100 km for any indulgences to have any significant impact to his afterlife status.
