Cranbrook-Creston 2026
Kelowna Pretrip
June 05, 2026
I am excited to be off on Sunday June 7, 2026 to meet up with some long time cycling friends for a couple of weeks of riding in Cranbrook and in Creston. Ed and I meet on my first northern tier cross America ride back in 2010. Ed claims to be 114 years old, but I think he is exaggerating a little as he was claiming to be over 80 back when I met him 16 years ago. This year we are being joined by Julie his wife. It wouldn't be a bike ride with out my other long time cycling associate Ken from Calgary. A smaller troupe this year but we are going to have fun.
At this point I have a total of zero miles on my bike for this year, however I do have quite a few hours on the stationary trainer so hopefully this will get me through. Ken claims zero miles as his bike has been hung in the garage since November 2025 and zero hours on the trainer. I am not too worried about keeping up with Ed as he is slightly older than myself even though he is on an ebike.
I have attached a couple of pre-trip photos. The first is my version of cyclist still life; duffle bag, helmet, shoes, chamois crème, sleeping bag, and the required A&W coupons. Also featured is a shop of my bike. It is a Look 765. I rode this bike on my last coast to coast ride in 2022. I scored an EFI on that trip and was the oldest rider to score an EFI. The Look 765 is really nice to ride as it has 28 mm tires, disc brakes and a large rear cassette which gives you a really low gear for the hill climbs.
I will be leaving Kelowna on June 7 for the 6.5 hr drive to Cranbrook. I thought that maybe I should have named this tour C2C (Cranbrook to Creston) but that might have given with impression that it was another Coast to Coast trip.
