Lisbon to Porto Porto
March 31, 2026
To day was a rest and recovery day in Porto before we make our way back home. Although I have been in Porto once before for the afternoon. I wanted to see some of the sights of Porto. Ken T, Karen, Barb and myself set off after breakfast in the hotel to see Porto.
We thought the best way to see the sights was to take a Hop-On-Hop_Off bus. It was located downtown so we hiked down the hill to downtown. The app lead us right to the ticket booth and we got single day rides. There were two loops a blue loop which was an hour in length took us to the south side of the river. The bus was right there and we jumped on. The views of Porto from the south bank were just astounding. After we got back from the south loop we stopped for a coffee and a quick pastry which was great. When we exited the coffee shop the red loop bus was right there loading so we piled on. We were luck to find seats in the open air upper deck as the bus was quite crowded. The second red loop was 2 hours long and took us through all of the Porto quarters. The are several quarters ranging from very high end mansions to quaint river from apartments dating back hundreds of years. The weather was just perfect for riding in the open air bus. The breeze kept you cool from the blazing sun.
I was struck by how many tourists are in the city. Streets are packed and there is hardly a single seat available in the sidewalk cafes. Maybe they are here for Easter celebrations or school break. I can only imagine how crowded it must be during busy tourist season.
After lunch Ken and I went shopping to find a Camino souvenir. A shell, a patch, a tee shirt or what ever. No luck. Lots of stuff of every description announcing it is from Porto but nothing for Camino. It is fine as I have a Camino Passport full of stamps from my journey.
Tomorrow I take the train back to Lisbon and then home the following day.
What an interesting journey it has been.
